Witness Corners

Following the footsteps of the original surveyor, by considering the Manual and Special Instructions which were current at the time of the original survey along with the field notes, may help to determine whether the true corner point is located by the method of proportionate, measurement or at record bearing and distance from the witness corner.

Caution: Determine whether the original witness corner was intended to be on the true line.

Determine which method would best locate the true corner point in its original position.

Some early surveyors have been known to use the terms witness corner and witness point interchangeably.
